Position: Senior Research Engineer on Network Optimization and Control The Network and Traffic Optimization research team in the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab, is looking for candidates for a permanent research position on Optimization and Control applied to networking. The opening is in the Huawei Research Center of Huawei Technologies France, SASU, located in the Paris area. The position focuses on developing algorithms for IP traffic engineering, network optimization, network control and automation. Major Responsibilities: - Conduct research on network optimization, network control and network automation for IP networks (datacenters, enterprise, carriers) with problems such as capacity planning, capacity expansion, routing, load balancing, bandwidth allocation, scheduling, and congestion control. - Grasp the long-term technological trends in the field of IP traffic engineering, identify key needs and technologies, and enable business success. - Develop advanced algorithms for specific scenarios and meet challenging performance requirements to enhance the core competitiveness of related products. - Disseminate research results in major scientific venues and in internal community of experts. Generate intellectual property when appropriate. - Create and maintain strong collaborations with industry partners and top tier academic research institutes. Required Degree: PhD + 4/5 years minimum (Seniority level according to experience) English: Operational Specific Requirements: The following skills and experiences are highly desirable: - PhD Degree in Telecommunication, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics - Excellent knowledge of optimization algorithms (linear programming, B&B, pricing, decomposition methods and convex optimization) and related tools (CPLEX, Gurobi, Coin-OR, Matlab) - Some knowledge with network architectures and technologies (TCP/IP, Routing, QoS, SDN, etc.) - Knowledge of control theory (e.g., model predictive control, markov decision processes, reinforcement learning) is a plus. - Experience with programming languages (C, C++, Java, Python, etc.) - Experience in participating / driving projects as an academic, entrepreneur, or at large companies. Ability to initiate and lead new initiatives in collaboration with both external and internal partners. - Excellent communication skills in English. Chinese is a plus. Candidates must have the ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to team-oriented projects that often span across multiple international Huawei research sites.
