Context:

Fleets of autonomous mobile robots deployed in hospitals to perform logistical, cleaning or health tasks are important allies in improving the quality of patient care and the working conditions of caregivers. They also make it possible to better prevent and fight pandemics. These technological breakthroughs, obtained in particular through greater digitalization and use of communication networks, introduce new vulnerabilities such as exposure to malicious users, or such as hardware, software or network failures.

The PRISME Laboratory - IRAUS department - coordinates two European RISE projects, ENDORSE which aims at deploying a fleet of robots in hospitals, and RESPECT which aims at ensuring their resilience. In this context, the Master internship will aim at developing a resilient task allocation strategy for a fleet of mobile robots. Then then goal is to implement it using the docker micro-services architecture, the MQTT protocol, and optimization algorithms, all available at the Laboratory.

First, the internship will focus on the modelling to solve the problem of planning and allocation of tasks from a specification. Then, the study will focus on a bibliographical study on the resilience mechanisms in planning solutions. Finally, the study will develop mitigation solutions to react to the presence of anomalies or incidents in the fleet; anomalies being detected by methods already deployed at the Laboratory. Mitigation solutions will be explored including robot isolation and rescheduling.

Skills:

  • Master 2 student in automatic control (or applied mathematics) with a strong interest in optimization algorithms and mathematical modelling.
  • Good knowledge in programming (python, C++).
